Osteopathy for babies
The physiological changes of birth and the new challenges of gravity, digestion and breathing play a part in many of the issues parents seek osteopathic help with.
The range of conditions that parents bring their babies for is very diverse. Lactation consultants, breastfeeding counsellors, midwives and health visitors often suggest osteopathy.
If you are not sure if osteopathy is suitable for your baby you are very welcome to book in for a free 15 minute conversation with me to discuss this.
Cranial osteopathy is very safe, gentle and non manipulative. I do a gentle but thorough review of your baby’s well-being. Treatment helps your baby's body make its own changes in response to treatment, it does not impose in any way and uses no pressure, but it does prompt the system to adjust towards normal function.
Please note that babies may sometimes be a little unsettled for up to 24 hours after treatment, after which they usually seem happier than before treatment.
A good time to consider starting treatment is between 2-4 weeks post birth, though sooner may be helpful. There is no minimum or maximum age - osteopathy is suitable even for premature infants and equally can give benefit at any age.
A typical treatment plan is 2-4 appointments.
It is a great privilege to be invited to treat infants and help new families get off to a good start, and it’s work I love to do.
