Osteopathy for postnatal mothers

It can take time to recover from the challenges of giving birth, no matter how well the actual event goes, and more so if the birth wasn’t straightforward. Generally speaking, giving birth is a physically demanding experience for everyone.

Usually new mothers ignore any residual discomfort after the birth because everything is wrapped up in caring for babies - and we’re all so very tired! However, it is a good time to treat postpartum effects as women’s bodies are very responsive soon after labour.

Treatment can help you regain your health and strength, and meet the demands of the baby more easily.

New mums come to see me to:-

  • Rebalance any strains from giving birth or from the pregnancy

  • Settle post-birth aches and pains with less long term discomfort,

  • Relieve discomfort from handling or feeding the baby

Consider having postnatal treatment if you have been through a prolonged or difficult labour. Osteopathy can:-

  • Speed your recovery by helping you and your body get over the shock of the birth

  • Help you avoid long term back and pelvis

Depending on your birth experience you may wish to have a check up and treatment afterwards.

Ideally, please arrange for a partner, family member or friend to look after your baby for you when you come to see me. Then we can talk and you can relax without worrying about the little one.

Please note that treatment may make you tired afterwards. I advise that you shouldn’t do any vigorous exercise for 48 hours after your appointment.

A typical treatment plan is 2-4 appointments.
