Thank you for booking in. This is to confirm your child’s first appointment with Julia Finlay.
On the first visit I will take a detailed case history of your baby or child including a full medical history and details of the pregnancy and birth. I then usually examine babies undressed to their nappies with a brief moment without the nappy for a hip check. In older children I may ask for them to undress to their underwear. They might like to wear comfortable clothing such as a T shirt and shorts. Treatment can usually proceed clothed and I will discuss with you if an exception needs to be made to this.
Bring with you a note of any medications (or the medications themselves) either prescribed or over the counter including any homoeopathic or herbal remedies your child is using. Xray and scan results can also be helpful. This information aids in reaching a correct diagnosis.
I use cranial osteopathic techniques when treating children as this is very gentle. Cranial technique is a slight misnomer as this family of techniques applies to the whole body! Principles of osteopathic treatment include respecting the “wholeness” of a child when treating (hence not just the problem area). Despite a very light contact your baby or child may occasionally be a little uncomfortable during treatment as tissues change but this is usually transient.
At the end of the first consultation/examination a detailed explanation of the diagnosis and proposed treatment will be given to you. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions about anything that you do not understand. Please also note that occasionally it is appropriate for me to refer on for further investigation or treatment, either elsewhere or alongside osteopathy. I will talk with you about this if this seems necessary and involve you in this decision.
The current fees are £70 for the first visit which will normally last an hour and £55 for subsequent visits which will normally last 45 minutes. However, please note that these appointment lengths may vary according to your child’s needs on a given day. I aim to achieve the maximum benefit during each treatment session and the fee reflects my experience and decision on each occasion. Mother and baby appointments are £110 and take an hour and a half.
If you are insured you are expected to settle the bill for each visit yourself (unless otherwise agreed) and you will be given a receipt so that you can reclaim the fee from your insurance company. Payment can be by cheque, cash or credit/debit card. Bupa members must supply a claim and policy number. This insurer may request a GP referral in the first instance.
If for any reason you decide not to take up this appointment, please call as soon as possible to cancel as I can then give it to another patient. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, then the clinic’s policy is to charge the full fee for the appointment.
I look forward to meeting you soon
